Bloody Valentine Grudge Match

Push it. P-p-push it real good…

La Cieca on Parterre Box has got a contest going on. I thought it would be apropos if we tried to sneak into the fun and fray. (Eg. Shamelessly self-promoting and unbelievably self-serving on my part…) He's got people designing for him opera-themed Valentine's Day cards.

La Cieca challenges the cher public to create their own operatically-themed Valentine’s Day cards, the more offbeat or macabre the better. You can either post a link to your designed card in the comments section or, if that’s a bit complicated for you, simply email your finished card to lacieca@parterre.com. (If you’re emailing your card, please remind La Cieca of your parterre screen name in the body of the email!)
The finest Valentine’s sentiment received by midnight, February 13 will be prominently featured on parterre.com and the designer will receive a grab-bag of recent operatic releases.

I've set up a Picasa web album of pictures taken from the regie productions I've been in this year (Bieito Parsifal, Warlikowski MacBeth and Castellucci Parsifal) and want to see if Opera Rocks readers can make a contribution to La C's contest. I'm hoping readers here will take a moment and go thru them. If something strikes your fancy and you can think of a good way to make a picture a Valentine's Day card, please write it on comments section by February 11th, and I'll turn it into a card for the February 13th deadline. Or, if you prefer, just download and do it yourself, following the directions above.

Now mind you, this is the world's leading "opera gay-zine" so going "over the top" is kind of the point. Pretty much everything goes. If different text serves your sense of humor, by all means change it. Just try to keep it within the same opera.

Here are Opera Rocks Regie Valentine Picture Choices:

And here is the link where you can access the album to add a byline. In some instances, I've labeled them with the text from approximately the moment they were taken. All you have to do is write down a punchy byline to turn it into a card (or download and send it to La C yourself). Remember, add your name, so in case you win, YOU get the prize Parterre offers: a grab bag of recent releases!

[edit: I cut the last line when I just found out this blog is being mentioned in the NYTimes review of Parsifal. Perhaps it was funniest in my head…don't wanna scare people off in their first read of Opera Rocks!]
