How I felt when I found out this blog is being mentioned in Musical America:
"Things are going to start happening to me now!" Love that line. I've got the family here with me and I have been promising to watch this movie with them. We did that together after an evening of Wagner.
Tomorrow will try to answer my mom's question. "But…what does it all MEAN?"
Now, if I could just get THIS song outta my head, I might be able to sleep…

Oh, what a feeling! Good on you, Andrew!
Just saw Parsifal last night. Many things I'd like to say:
1. Thanks
2. How different to see an opera after reading this blog and hearing about the production from some of the extra's.
3. How delicate Act II with a very composed but deeply emotional drama between Kundry and Parsifal. It reminded me of Castellucci's Il Combattimento.
4. How great the setting and dramaturgy of Act I, where so much space is given to the audience, to the imagination, while the story's past unfolds and the stakes are set.
5. How moving Act III, when Parsifal walks together with humanity, humbly, living us wondering what the accomplishment is. Tears just came to me then.
6. The music and the singing were honoured by Castellucci's work. They made it possible for time to become space and for us to get on board for this poetic and philosophical journey.
You know what ... I had the same impression when I saw my name in the program of Parsifal of De Munt/La Monnaie !
Servaas (one of the 170)
I heard yesterday's performance and am still - today- very impressed, rethinking about it, reading and listening on internet, reading your blog.. You were truly great, you have a wonderful voice that you use so well; a big voice but still transparent, beautiful musical lines and emotional intensity, bravo! You left me and my friend really happy. And you are in great company (Haenchen, Larsson, Thomas..)As puzzling as the regie sometimes may be, it lets space to the music and sometimes is of a beautiful dreamlike visual beauty, Act 3 I still have to think over...But thanks some much for a truly great Parsifal: you have one more fan!!
I do agree with 'Servaas'. We, little "workers", have our name in the program of Parsifal. Can you believe it! How very thoughtful...
Though I'm a little bit disappointed: act 3 doesn't seem to fill people with enthusiasm. We are doing our best though...
But what really matters is that people love what you do.
I overheard some reactions about act 3, that it is impressive and hypnotising... a strange, mystic feeling

Jan vdw: I'm re-writing my resume and going to put your quote on it.
That is just about the nicest and most insightful thing anyone has written of yours truly. Thank you!
Thank you Monica and Servass.Nolwanae and Bruno. As I said on stage tonite, the final performance is gonna be a big ol' cry fest. I feel it coming on already and we've only done 3. Still a long way to go.
Thanks people.
